Man United head coach Ruben Amorim addresses his side's "biggest problem" after Wolves defeat

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says that a lack of goals is the team's "biggest problem" following Sunday's 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has said that a lack of goals is the team's "biggest problem", with the Red Devils drawing another blank against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.

Pablo Sarabia's second-half free kick decided the league contest at Old Trafford, with Man United once again made to pay for missed opportunities, with Rasmus Hojlund struggling in the final third of the field.

Man United have now scored just 38 times in 33 league matches this season, and they are down in 14th spot in the Premier League table, level on points with 15th-placed Wolves, who have won their last five league fixtures.

The Red Devils are set to move for a new striker this summer, with Amorim admitting that a lack of goals is the team's "biggest problem".

"If you don't score goals you don't win games. We need to score goals. There was a time we didn't score, but we didn't create. We have a lot of chances to score, but we didn't score - that's the biggest problem for our team," Amorim told BBC Sport.

Amorim addresses Man United's goalscoring problems

"We didn't score our opportunities. That's it. We need to score goals. We need to continue to work but it is not just Rasmus, the whole team missed a lot of opportunities.

"This season is going to end like this so we need to take the positives and work on what we need to improve. They will have one chance. We have to look at everything, our squad, what we have to do in the market. We will see. We talk every day about next season and with time we will get what we need to improve the team."

There were positives for Man United on Sunday afternoon, though, with Tyler Fredricson impressing on his senior debut, while Harry Amass put in a strong performance at wing-back.

"What I felt today is they deserved a better memory from their first games. Tyler and Amass played really well. They deserved better," the manager told reporters in his post-match press conference.

What next for Man United?

Man United will continue their Premier League campaign away to Bournemouth next Sunday, before heading to Athletic Bilbao for the first leg of their Europa League semi-final on May 1.

The Red Devils will then visit Brentford on May 4, four days before the second leg of their Europa League semi-final with Athletic, and it is Europa League or bust for the club in the latter stages of the campaign.

Man United's worst-ever Premier League season in terms of a points return has already been confirmed, but the club would secure Champions League football for next term if they are able to triumph in the Europa League.
