Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick says that it is up to Marcus Rashford to "take the steps himself" to regain his best form.

Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick has said that it is up to Marcus Rashford to "take the steps himself" to regain a spot in the team's starting XI.

Rashford was again left out of the side for Saturday's Premier League clash with Leicester City despite the absence of both Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani through illness and injury respectively.

The England international has struggled for form this season, managing just five goals and two assists in 27 appearances in all competitions, and there has been a host of speculation surrounding his future in recent weeks.

Rangnick has challenged Rashford to overcome his slump to become an important player for the team once again.

"Marcus, it's no secret that he is not having his best time right now," Rangnick told reporters. "It has to do with rhythm and confidence, it's our job to help him to get this confidence back.

"The only thing we can do is speak to him regularly and tell him what we expect from him and what he should do. The rest has to be done by himself.

"It is possible to develop within a couple of weeks a level of confidence where you can be a different player again. We all know that Marcus can play better, but in the end he has to take the steps himself."

Having been knocked out of the Champions League in the round of 16, Man United are not back in action until Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Everton in the Premier League.
