Casemiro is a doubt for Manchester United's trip to Sheffield United next Saturday as the Brazilian has picked up an ankle knock on international duty.

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has sustained a knock while on international duty with Brazil.

Casemiro was replaced with 12 minutes to go in the Selecao's draw with Venezuela in Cuiaba on Thursday night.

Brazil then went on to concede just minutes later as they were held to a surprising 1-1 draw by one of the continent's less-successful outfits.

Manager Fernando Diniz would go on to reveal post-match that it was an issue with Casemiro's ankle that forced him into the change.

Diniz told Globo Esporte: "As there was a stop, I decided to make the three substitutions. We had a lot of control when they came on. Casemiro asked to come off due to a blow to his ankle."

That means that the midfielder is now a doubt for Brazil's trip to Montevideo, where they will face Uruguay on Tuesday night.

Erik ten Hag will wait with baited breath to see whether he will have the Brazilian at his disposal when the group reconvenes for club duty next week.

Man United return to action with a trip to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United next Saturday, where an 8pm kickoff may allow additional recovery time for players such as Casemiro who are returning from South America.

In attack, Facundo Pellistri and Alejandro Garnacho will also make the long trek back from the continent in hope of being ready in time for the trip to Yorkshire.

Even if Casemiro is passed fit though, he will not be available for United's Champions League tie that will come three days later against Copenhagen after his red card in the defeat to Galatasaray.

The 31-year-old midfielder has been ever-present for the club this season, starting in every match across three competitions so far.

Ten Hag did take Casemiro off at half time while 1-0 down to Brentford last weekend though, with United going on to win 2-1 thanks to two stoppage-time Scott McTominay goals.

Any sort of time out for Casemiro will add to United's extremely long injury list though, as Ten Hag already has as many as eight confirmed absentees for the upcoming league encounter with the Blades.
