Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag reveals that English attacker Mason Mount is back on the training field following a muscular issue.

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has revealed that Mason Mount is back on the training field, with the attacker bidding to overcome his latest fitness issue.

The summer arrival from Chelsea has struggled to make an impact at Man United this season, only managing one assist in 12 appearances in all competitions.

Mount missed five games earlier this season due to injury, while he has been absent for the team's last two fixtures with Everton and Galatasaray due to a muscular problem.

There had been fears that the latest injury would keep him out for around four weeks, but Ten Hag has said that the England international is back on the training field.

"We have many options but we have to manage the load of the players," Ten Hag told reporters during his press conference when asked about the current injury situation. "It is also about freshness as well.

"Mason Mount is, today, returning on the [training] pitch, but I don't know how long it will take until he returns [to play]. I can't say in this moment."

Man United also released a statement on Tyrell Malacia on Friday, revealing that the Netherlands international had been forced to undergo a second knee operation.

"There are updates, so Ty Malacia, he had surgery and he will return in quite short notice. I think, from new year on, he can be available," Ten Hag said in a separate interview with club media.

"But it's very good that Luke Shaw made his return in this week. We are happy with that and also the others, they are working very hard to return as soon as possible to the team."

Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen and Amad Diallo remain on the sidelines through injury, while Jadon Sancho is still not involved with the first team at Old Trafford.

Sancho has not played since the end of August due to his falling-out with Ten Hag, and he is set to leave the club when the January transfer window opens for business.

Man United will be boosted by the return of Marcus Rashford for Saturday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United, with the attacker missing out against Galatasaray in the Champions League through suspension.

Andre Onana was again heavily criticised for his part in Man United's draw with Galatasaray, with the goalkeeper potentially at fault for all three of the home side's goals.

However, Ten Hag launched a strong defence of the Cameroonian during his press conference and claimed that he is currently the second-best goalkeeper in the Premier League.
