Sports Mole looks at how Anthony Martial has performed against Everton ahead of Manchester United's trip to the Toffees in the Premier League.

Anthony Martial could be in line for a rare Manchester United start in Sunday's Premier League clash with Everton at Goodison Park.

The 27-year-old has been back-up to Rasmus Hojlund since the Denmark international made his debut for the Red Devils at the start of September.

Hojlund is a doubt for this weekend's match, though, due to the muscular strain that he suffered in the team's last fixture against Luton Town before the international break.

Man United head coach Erik ten Hag said during his press conference on Friday that the 20-year-old would need to have a final assessment on Saturday before it is determined whether he will feature.

Martial would likely benefit if Hojlund was deemed to be unavailable, and with that in mind, Sports Mole looks at how he has performed against Everton in the past.

The forward has only scored once in all competitions this season, while he has drawn a blank in each of his 10 appearances in the Premier League in 2023-24.

Everton are a team that Martial has enjoyed facing down the years, though, netting an impressive eight goals against them in 16 appearances, in addition to providing four assists.

The Toffees are Martial's favourite opponents when it comes to finding the back of the net during his professional career, while he has won 11, drawn four and lost just one of his previous 16 games against the Merseyside team in all competitions.

Martial's first goal against Everton came in a 1-0 Man United win at Old Trafford during the 2015-16 campaign, while he netted against them home and away during the 2017-18 Premier League season.

Only one of his six league goals in games with Everton have come at Goodison Park, but he provided an assist in a 2-1 victory for Man United at the famous stadium last term.

Martial also has a strong record against Everton in the cup competitions, winning twice in the FA Cup and once in the EFL Cup, scoring twice and providing two assists in the process.

The forward's low-point in games with the Toffees came in 2019, when he played the full 90 minutes of a 4-0 defeat for the 20-time English champions at Goodison Park in the league.

Martial has largely enjoyed his match-ups with the Merseyside team since his arrival in English football, though, and he could be given the chance to kickstart what has been a largely disappointing campaign on Sunday afternoon.
