Andrew Robertson has confirmed that he has held “good discussions” with Liverpool over his future, but he is still unclear on what the outcome of those talks will be.
The 31-year-old has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League with the Reds since joining from Hull City for around £8m in 2017.
Robertson has made close to 350 appearances for Liverpool and has won a total of nine trophies, including his second Premier League title last season under head coach Arne Slot.
However, the Scotsman received some criticism for a dip in form in 2024-25 and speculation over his long-term future at Anfield is rife, as he will soon be entering the final year of his contract at the club.
Uncertainty over Robertson’s future comes at a time when Liverpool have allegedly made contact with Bournemouth over signing left-back Milos Kerkez this summer.
Robertson offers update on Liverpool future, contract situation
Speaking about his future to Sky Sports News at the AR26 annual Captain’s Cup Golf Day fundraiser, Robertson said: "We have discussed. We’ve had good discussions, me and the club. But what the future holds I’m not sure.
"All I know is [on Friday] I fly off on holiday and it’s well needed, I need a rest after a long season. And then I look forward to pre-season. That’s all my focus is.
"I can’t look too far ahead, I never have done and I’m not going to start now. I know the position I’m in, I’ve only got a year left and a lot is getting said but my pure focus is focusing on being a dad for the next couple of weeks and enjoying that time with the kids and then try to come back in the best shape possible for pre-season and see what the future holds when the decisions come."
"When you play for a big club like Liverpool you expect challenges, you expect to have competition, I've always faced that and so has everyone in their own positions.
“We want the club to be ambitious, they're doing that and wherever we fit into that, if you’re happy with the role you stay and do it and if you’re not then I'm sure there will be some people out the door as well. That's the nature of football."
Robertson aware that Liverpool “want to get new blood in”
Commenting on Liverpool’s interest in Kerkez, Robertson added: "I think at any big club you always have to keep moving, the club always moves forward and I think you've also seen other big clubs like Manchester City have been very active early doors in the window.
"I know we've only got Jeremie Frimpong through the door so far, but it looks as though one or two others are going to be close from what we can see on Sky Sports News.
“But just now we're at the top, we obviously won the league and it's important that the club keeps improving and finding ways to do that.
"The club have identified certain positions where they want to get new blood in, it looks like players we're linked to are all younger players and they are all exciting players as well.”
While Liverpool are yet to agree a deal with Bournemouth to sign Kerkez, the 21-year-old's teammate Justin Kluivert has publicly predicted that he will “probably go” to Anfield at some stage this summer.
