Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer news and rumours, including Luka Modric to AC Milan, Djordje Petrovic to leave Chelsea and Sam Beukema to Napoli.

Goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic has been left out of Chelsea’s squad for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States this summer.

The 25-year-old spent the 2024-25 campaign on loan at French side Strasbourg, keeping 10 clean sheets in 31 Ligue 1 appearances.

According to The Telegraph, Petrovic asked to be omitted from Chelsea’s travelling squad for the Club World Cup after making it clear that he wants to focus on his future this summer.

The report adds that Chelsea would have included Petrovic in their squad had he not asked to be left out, regardless of their failed attempt to sign AC Milan's Mike Maignan.

With Petrovic wanting assurances over regular first-team football next season, it is understood that Strasbourg are interested in signing him permanently.

Meanwhile, TEAMtalk claims that Leeds United, Aston Villa, Brentford, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Juventus, Fiorentina and Bayer Leverkusen have also registered their interest now that Chelsea have put the goalkeeper up for sale.

Should Petrovic fail to secure a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge, the Serbia international is expected to re-join Enzo Maresca’s squad for pre-season training in July.

Napoli ‘agree personal terms’ with Beukema

Elsewhere, Serie A champions Napoli have reportedly made progress in their pursuit of Bologna defender Sam Beukema.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that the Partenopei have agreed personal terms with the 26-year-old Dutchman over a five-year deal for him to become a ‘main option’ in Antonio Conte’s side.

The deal is now said to depend on Bologna, who are yet to agree a fee with Napoli and value the defender at around €30m (£25.5m).

Beukema established himself as an important first-team player with Bologna in th 2024-25 campaign, making 47 appearances across all competitions and helping the club end their 51-year wait to win a trophy by beating AC Milan in the Coppa Italia final.

With two years remaining on his contract, Beukema has previously hinted at wanting to challenge himself in the Premier League at some stage in his career after revealing that he once rejected Liverpool manager Arne Slot during his time in charge of Feyenoord.

Modric to undergo Milan medical

Staying in Italy, AC Milan are reportedly closing in on the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric.

The legendary Croatian, who turns 40 in September, has already confirmed that he will end his 13-year association with Los Blancos when his contract expires this summer.

Modric has a verbal agreement with Italian giants Milan, and journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that he is scheduled to undergo a medical before finalising his move to San Siro after the Club World Cup.

Before focusing fully on Milan, Modric will play for Real Madrid for the final time at the newly-expanded 32-team tournament, which for Los Blancos could conclude in mid-July if they progress all the way to the showpiece event.

Milan, who finished eighth in Serie A last season and failed to qualify for Europe, have opted to move for the veteran midfielder following the sale of Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester City for an initial fee of £46.5m.

Boasting 591 appearances to his name, Modric will leave Real Madrid as the most decorated player in the club’s history and will be hoping to win a 29th trophy with the Spanish giants at the Club World Cup this summer.
