Liverpool reportedly identify a Real Madrid attacker as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Liverpool have reportedly identified Real Madrid attacker Brahim Diaz as a potential replacement for talisman Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian is enjoying a scintillating season with Arne Slot's side, having racked up 30 goals and 22 assists in 39 competitive appearances.

Salah's impressive form has been crucial in Liverpool establishing a 13-point gap at the top of the Premier League table, while he has also helped them reach the Champions League last 16 and the EFL Cup final.

However, it is currently unclear whether he will still be at Anfield beyond the end of the season due to his uncertain contract situation.

Salah is one of three Liverpool stars who are out of contract his summer, along with captain Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool considering Brahim as Salah replacement

While Salah could still extend his stay at Anfield, Liverpool are seemingly scouring the market for potential replacements in case they are unable to agree an extension with the 32-year-old.

According to Fichajes, Liverpool have 'set their sights' on Real Madrid's Brahim as a possible successor for the Egypt international.

The report claims that the Reds have made 'informal contact' to gather more information about the player's situation at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Liverpool are said to be willing to make a significant offer for the Morocco international, with Real Madrid open to suitable proposals despite Brahim being a valuable member of Carlo Ancelotti's squad.

Is Brahim a viable replacement for Salah?

Brahim may not be a regular starter at Real Madrid, but that is due to the wealth of quality at Ancelotti's disposal rather than a reflection of the 25-year-old's performances.

The Real Madrid man can play in a number of positions, having proven he is capable of operating on either flank as well as number 10 or second striker.

Brahim has scored four goals and provided seven assists in 34 competitive appearances this season.

He has the quality to become a starter for a top club, but he is unlikely to generate the goal output of a player like Salah.

With that in mind, Brahim could be a valuable addition to the Liverpool squad, but he should not be seen as a direct replacement for their star forward.
