Florian Wirtz has only just arrived at Liverpool after his record transfer, but his integration is already a subject of debate. In recent days, former Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has voiced uncertainty over how new head coach Arne Slot plans to utilise the Germany international.
"Yes, he will establish himself, although I do not know exactly in which position Arne intends to use Florian," Klopp told the Daily Mail.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder recently joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth approximately €117m (£99.2m), making him the most expensive signing in Premier League history — surpassing the fee Chelsea paid for Enzo Fernandez.
Wirtz misses Liverpool friendly despite training
Wirtz has been training with the Liverpool squad since arriving around four weeks ago but did not feature in the club’s first pre-season friendly against Preston North End, which the Reds won 3-1.
Despite Wirtz’s absence, several other new signings were involved, including Giorgi Mamardashvili, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Freddie Woodman.

According to the Daily Mail, Wirtz was rested as part of an individualised fitness plan. He is still expected to take part in upcoming pre-season fixtures.
Wirtz primarily operated as an attacking midfielder last season for Leverkusen, registering 16 goals and 15 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions. At Liverpool, he could be deployed as a false nine or potentially on the left flank — particularly if Luis Diaz departs in the coming weeks.
"He is going to be absolutely fantastic, I am sure," Klopp added in an interview with RTL/NTV. "It is very hard to strengthen a team when you are champions, but Liverpool have managed it. They have signed an exceptional talent. I cannot wait to see him play."
