Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is charged with improper conduct by the FA after receiving a red card in Sunday's Premier League victory over Manchester City.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been charged with improper conduct by the FA following his red card in Sunday's win over Manchester City.

The Reds ended the champions' unbeaten run in the Premier League with a 1-0 triumph at Anfield thanks to Mohamed Salah's goal in the 76th minute of the contest.

Following Salah's strike, the Egyptian went down under the attention of Bernardo Silva right in front of the linesman, but a foul was not awarded by Anthony Taylor.

Klopp lambasted the linesman in the wake of the incident and was sent to the stands for the remainder of the match, and he admitted that he went "over the top" after the game.

The FA have now confirmed that Klopp has been charged with a breach of Rule E3, and the German will have until Friday to respond to the charge.

"Jurgen Klopp has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 following the Premier League game between Liverpool FC and Manchester City FC on Sunday [16/10/22]," a statement read.

"It is alleged that the Liverpool FC manager's behaviour during the 86th minute of this game was improper, and he has until Friday [21/10/22] to provide a response."

While admitting that his outburst warranted a red card, Klopp still criticized Taylor's refereeing in his post-game press conference, telling reporters: "Yeah, it's about emotion, of course. So, of course, red card, my fault.

"I went over the top in the moment, I don't think I was disrespectful to anybody but when you look at the pictures back – I know myself for 55 years that the way I look in these moments is already worth a red card.

"I know that, who cares what I say? I lost it in that moment and that is not OK, but I think a little bit as an excuse I would like to mention, how can you not whistle that foul? How on earth is it possible? And I wish I could get an explanation."

Liverpool will aim to build on their win over Man City when they tackle West Ham United at Anfield on Wednesday night, and Klopp expects to be on the touchline for that game despite his sending off.

"I think I will be there tomorrow because nothing really happened yet. I don't think that something will happen tomorrow, to be honest, a few hours before the game," Klopp told the press on Tuesday.

"I still think I should have dealt differently with the situation, which I actually do usually. I explained after the game: in this moment you could not bring me in this mood, no chance. But the whole game led to that maybe a little bit, the way it went.

"I'm not happy with my reaction but that's the way it was, everybody saw it. I was sitting after the game in the office of [referee] Anthony Taylor and spoke completely calmly about all the situations, about how he saw the game and how I saw the game.

"It was a completely calm discussion. But anyway, that's the situation: I got a red card and now we wait for the process, pretty much."

Liverpool's victory over Man City saw them rise to eighth in the Premier League table, and victory over West Ham could propel them as high as fifth depending on results elsewhere.

However, the Reds have been dealt a bitter injury blow ahead of the midweek clash, as Diogo Jota has now been ruled out of the World Cup with the calf injury he sustained towards the end of Sunday's game.

Luis Diaz, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate, Naby Keita, Arthur and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are also absent for Liverpool as they prepare to host David Moyes's side.
