Harvey Elliott will undergo surgery later this week after dislocating his ankle against Leeds United on Sunday in the 60th minute of the game.

Harvey Elliott is set to undergo surgery after suffering a dislocated ankle during Liverpool's 3-0 victory against Leeds United on Sunday.

The 18-year-old started the game at Elland Road but had to be stretchered off the pitch after a challenge from Pascal Struijk led to him being seriously injured.

After the game, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Elliott sustained a dislocated ankle from the tackle as he was sent straight to the hospital, being discharged later that night, and he will undergo surgery later this week.

The young midfielder was making his fourth appearance in the Premier League this season and was just about to be substituted before the 60th-minute injury, which led to Struijk being sent off.

Elliott's teammates were visibly distraught by the situation, which led to the away fans singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone', while the home crowd applauded as he was taken off the field to the local hospital.

Liverpool released a statement saying: "Harvey, his family and Liverpool FC would like to place on record their thanks to the paramedics and all the staff at Leeds General Infirmary for the care and treatment given."

Elliott's selection at Elland Road saw him become the youngest Liverpool midfielder to ever start three successive league games for the club.
