Republic of Ireland faced already-qualified Italy in Group E on Wednesday night needing to win in order to advance into the knockout rounds of Euro 2016.
Martin O'Neill's side dominated the first 45 minutes in Lille, but the two teams entered the break on level terms.
It was a similar story for long spells of the second period, but Robbie Brady won it for Republic of Ireland in the 85th minute to send his country into the round of 16 as one of the best third-place finishers.
