Nottingham Forest midfielder Andy Reid announces his retirement from football at the age of 34 following a string of injuries.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Andy Reid has announced his retirement from football on his 34th birthday.

The 29-time Republic of Ireland international has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons, last making a first-team appearance against Derby County in October 2014.

Reid came through the ranks at Forest and went on to enjoy spells at Tottenham Hotspur, Charlton Athletic and Sunderland before returning to the City Ground.

In all, Reid made more than 450 senior club appearances during his career, scoring 60 goals.

During his recovery from injury last season he was handed a place on the coaching staff at Forest, but new manager Philippe Montanier has confirmed that there will be no room for Reid amongst his backroom staff during the upcoming campaign.
