The agent of Ajax defender Jorrel Hato has confirmed that his client has entered talks over a move to Chelsea.
The Blues have been active in the summer transfer window, having strengthened their attacking options with the additions of Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap and Estevao.
Midfielder Dario Essugo has also joined the club this summer, while defender Mamadou Sarr has officially arrived from Strasbourg after his transfer was initially agreed in January.
While Sarr is now part of Enzo Maresca’s squad, the Blues still appear to be keen to strengthen their defensive ranks before the transfer window shuts on September 1.
Hato agent confirms Chelsea transfer talks
It has been reported that Chelsea have made contact with Ajax over a potential deal for versatile defender, Hato.
The report claims that the Netherlands international is keen to join the Blues despite having three years left to run on his Ajax contract.
Hato’s agent, Humphry Nijman, has now addressed the transfer rumours, admitting that his client is currently in discussions over a move to Stamford Bridge.
"Yes, it’s true Chelsea have contacted Ajax,” Nijman told Dutch publication De Telegraaf.
“The only thing I can say is that Jorrel is now in talks with Chelsea."
Where does Hato fit into Maresca's squad?
Hato predominantly played as a left-back during his 50 competitive appearances for Ajax last season, contributing two goals and six assists.
As a result, Chelsea’s recruitment team may view the 19-year-old as a suitable option to provide cover for their first-choice left-back, Marc Cucurella.
Hato is also comfortable playing in central defence, which could appeal to Chelsea due to the uncertainty surrounding a number of their current central defensive options.
Renato Veiga and Axel Disasi are both set to leave this summer, while Tosin Adarabioyo and Trevoh Chalobah have both been linked with moves away from the club.
