Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard's record as a player vs. Everton

Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa side take on Everton in the Premier League on Saturday, but how did the Englishman fare against Liverpool's Merseyside rivals as a player?

Steven Gerrard may be 203 games into a managerial career, but his Merseyside connection will always be a talking point whenever he encounters Liverpool or Everton.

Having already made the return to his roots to face Liverpool at Anfield last month, the legendary midfielder is now preparing to square off against their fierce rivals on Saturday afternoon.

Having only been at Aston Villa for shortly longer than two months, Gerrard will be lining up in the opposite dugout from the Toffees for the first time.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at how Gerrard fared against Everton before hanging up his boots in 2016.

Giving Everton's long-standing stint in the top flight, Gerrard was never far away from his next game against the Blue half of the city, and they crossed paths on 33 occasions.

Thirty of those fixtures took place in the Premier League, with Gerrard boasting a record of 16 wins and 10 draws between 1999 and 2015.

Unexpectedly, that represents the most amount of wins that Gerrard recorded over one opponent in the league, and he ended his Liverpool days having contributed to an eight-game unbeaten streak.

In terms of games played at Goodison Park, Gerrard lost on three occasions, while a fourth came in an FA Cup tie which went to extra time in 2009.

From a personal perspective, Gerrard scored nine times against Everton in the Premier League, including a hat-trick in a 3-0 triumph at Anfield during 2011-12.

Despite his ratio of goals perhaps being lower than you would expect, Gerrard netted just once during his first 10 games, playing catch-up over the remaining 20 outings.

Rather surprisingly, Gerrard only received four yellow cards during Premier League fixtures, although he was dismissed twice in contests played in 1999 and 2006.
