Liverpool 'remain in race' for £27m Arne Slot target

Liverpool are reportedly still in the race to sign Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida as they look to reunite the Dutchman with his former manager Arne Slot.

Liverpool are reportedly still interested in signing Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida.

The Reds are currently looking to bolster their squad to give Arne Slot the best chance of succeeding in his first season in the Anfield dugout.

Last month, it was reported that Liverpool were hoping to strengthen their backline with the addition of Feyenoord's Geertruida.

It recently emerged that Liverpool's Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur were also said to be among the Dutchman's admirers.

Liverpool still pursuing Geertruida deal

Although they are facing competition for Geertruida's signature, De Telegraaf are reporting that Liverpool remain in the race to sign the 23-year-old this summer.

Feyenoord have seemingly resigned themselves to losing Geertruida this summer, with the player set to enter the final 12 months of his contract.

As a result of his contract situation, the upcoming transfer window represents one final chance for Feyenoord to command a decent fee.

The Dutch giants are believed to be looking for around €32m (£27m) to part ways with the Netherlands international this summer.

As well as being rivalled by Tottenham, Liverpool will have to fend off interest from Arsenal if they are to reunite Geetruida with his former Feyenoord boss.

Who is Feyenoord's highly-rated defender?

Geertruida primarily operates on the right side of defence, so he would add useful strength-in-depth to a position that currently belongs to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

However, the 23-year-old has demonstrated that he can play across the backline, making him an appealing option for the Merseyside club.

Last season, the Feyenoord academy product featured in 47 competitive matches, chipping in with nine goals and five assists.

Geertruida appeared in each of Feyenoord's five KNVB Beker matches, helping the club lift the trophy for the first time in five years.

Having been selected by Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman, Geertruida is currently preparing to represent his country at Euro 2024 in Germany.
