Southampton are reportedly eyeing up former Manchester United and Chelsea man Eric Ramsay as a possible new head coach ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Southampton have reportedly shortlisted former Manchester United and Chelsea coach Eric Ramsay as a potential new manager on the South coast.

The Saints' woeful one-year stay in the Premier League continued on Saturday afternoon when Fulham completed a comeback to earn three points on the road.

It appeared as if sorry Southampton were on course for only their third top-flight victory of the term when centre-back Jack Stephens found the net during the first half.

A rare reason for celebration was short-lived, though, as goals from Emile Smith Rowe and Ryan Sessegnon in the second period won the day for the Cottagers.

Already relegated and managerless, Southampton are rooted to the very bottom of the Premier League rankings, collecting just 11 points all campaign to date.

Southampton considering Man United, Chelsea alumni Ramsay?

According to Sky Sports News, Southampton are casting their net across the Atlantic Ocean as they search for a successor to former boss Ivan Juric.

The report claims that the Saints have shortlisted Ramsay, who has been in charge of MLS outfit Minnesota United since the beginning of their 2024 term.

It is understood that the 33-year-old has impressed a number of English teams and clubs across Europe with his management of the American side.

Fluent in French and Spanish, Ramsay is seen as an excellent communicator despite this lack of experience in charge of first-team footballers.

The Welshman has won 20 of his 46 matches in charge of Minnesota so far, leaving him with a modest win percentage of 43% as the Saints eye his signature.

Who else could Southampton appoint?

As well as former Man United and Chelsea coach Ramsay, Southampton are supposedly exploring the possibility of a swoop for Sheffield Wednesday man Danny Rohl.

The German is a popular figure at Hillsborough among supporters and would require a hefty compensation fee to be released from his Owls contract.

There are also mutterings of a potential Steven Gerrard arrival at St Mary's, with the Liverpool legend looking for employment since leaving Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq in January.
