Real Madrid confirm that Lucas Vazquez has extended his contract with the club until June 2025.

Real Madrid have confirmed that Lucas Vazquez has extended his contract at Bernabeu until June 2025.

The Spaniard officially became a free agent at the end of June, with his previous deal expiring, but it has long been thought that the 33-year-old would remain with Carlo Ancelotti's side for another campaign.

Real Madrid have now officially confirmed a new deal for Vazquez, who again proved to be an important squad player for the Spanish and European champions during the 2023-24 campaign, scoring three goals and registering eight assists in 38 appearances in all competitions.

"Real Madrid CF and Lucas Vazquez have agreed to extend our player's contract, which will keep him at the club until June 30, 2025," read a statement on the capital outfit's official website.

Vazquez scored three times and registered seven assists in 29 La Liga appearances last season, while he managed one assist in nine Champions League outings.

Vazquez came through the youth system at Real Madrid, and he represented Espanyol during the 2014-15 campaign before returning to Los Blancos as a first-team player.

Capable as featuring as a right-sided attacker and a right-back, Vazquez has made 349 appearances for the capital giants, scoring 36 goals and registering 65 assists in the process.

The Spaniard has had huge success during his time at Real Madrid, winning four La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and five Champions League titles.

Vazquez's new deal has not come as a surprise, as his versatility and experience makes him a hugely important squad player for Ancelotti, and the capital giants will again be bidding to challenge on all fronts during the 2024-25 campaign.

When will Real Madrid begin their 2024-25 campaign?

Real Madrid's 2024-25 season will officially get underway on August 14, when they take on Europa League winners Atalanta BC in the UEFA Super Cup.

Los Blancos will then open their La Liga campaign against Mallorca on August 18, before finishing the month with league fixtures against Real Valladolid and Las Palmas.

Before then, the capital giants will take on AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea in three glamour friendlies in the United States.

Kylian Mbappe is not expected to be a part of the squad for the three pre-season games, though, with the France international set to have a break from football following his involvement in Euro 2024.

The forward's arrival at Bernabeu on a free transfer was officially announced earlier this week, and he will wear the number nine for his new club during the 2024-25 campaign.
