Ancelotti reveals Mbappe availability hopes for Copa del Rey final

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti provides an update on Kylian Mbappe's availability for Saturday's Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he is hopeful that Kylian Mbappe will be fit for Saturday's Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.

Los Blancos have a potential double to play for after their Champions League defence came to an end in their recent quarter-final tie against Arsenal.

What made last week's second leg defeat even worse was the fact that Mbappe was forced off with an ankle injury in the second half.

Mbappe was already ruled out for Sunday's 1-0 league win over Athletic Bilbao after he received a one-match suspension following his red card against Alaves earlier this month.

Having served his ban, the France international is now eligible for Wednesday's La Liga meeting with Getafe at the Coliseum.

Ancelotti provides Mbappe update

Unfortunately for Los Blancos, Ancelotti has now confirmed that Mbappe will miss the midweek fixture as he continues to work on his injury recovery.

The Real Madrid boss is still hopeful that Mbappe and Ferland Mendy will prove their fitness in time for Saturday's Copa del Rey showdown with arch-rivals Barcelona.

"For tomorrow, Mbappe and Mendy are not ready, but they'll train over these coming days," Ancelotti told reporters in Tuesday's pre-match press conference.

"I think both could be available for the game on Saturday. Mbappe is hurt by his injury, and not being able to help the team, but he's doing everything to be ready."

Mbappe's importance to Real Madrid

Real Madrid will be desperate for Mbappe to recover in time to play a key role in the final at Estadio La Cartuja in Sevilla.

There has been some speculation that Mbappe's arrival this season has had an adverse effect on the overall performance of the team.

However, he has ultimately been one of Real Madrid's standout players and is the club's leading scorer with 33 goals in 50 competitive appearances this season.

Mbappe will certainly be hungry to add to that tally if he features on Saturday with the Frenchman looking to win his first domestic trophy with Real Madrid.
