Newcastle United reportedly make a decision over how to handle any interest in midfielder Lewis Miley.
Unlike recent transfer windows, there is currently a flurry of activity at St James' Park as the Magpies look to build a squad capable of challenging in the Premier League and Champions League.
Most notably, Eddie Howe and club officials face the challenge of trying to keep Alexander Isak at St James' Park as Liverpool prepare a club-record bid.
Rejecting that interest could see Newcastle struggle to remain favourites to sign Eintracht Frankfurt attacker Hugo Ekitike, while Sean Longstaff is seemingly on the brink of ending his long-term stay in the North-East.
Selling a homegrown talent such as Longstaff could potentially have ramifications for Miley at a time when Newcastle are struggling to fulfil such places in their squad to comply with the relevant registration rules.
Would Newcastle sell Miley?
According to Football Insider, Newcastle would still be willing to cash in on the academy graduate for the right price.
As per former scout Mick Brown, a regular contributor to the outlet, Howe is eager to sign a new central midfielder and would be open to listening to proposals for the 19-year-old.
Brown said: "Eddie Howe wants to sign a new midfielder. Of course, they’ve got Joelinton who plays that box-to-box role, with Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali in there as well, so where does a new option fit?
“You have to look at the squad, because it’s the players on the fringes who will be affected. They’ve got Lewis Miley there, who I’m not sure they see being a first-team regular.
“He’s very talented and he’s been in and around the squad, but I think if they get a new midfielder in, they could listen to offers for him."
Would Miley want to stay at Newcastle?
With players progressing from the Newcastle youth ranks having been rare of late, there have been high hopes for Miley who was fast-tracked at a young age.
Having just turned 19 years of age, a total of 23 starts and 23 substitute outings for a club of Newcastle's stature is an impressive feat.
Even if Miley went into the new season as fifth choice in the engine room, the starlet may insist on staying put when he holds a contract until 2029.
Newcastle are his boyhood club and the England Under-21 international could show preference to wanting another taste of Champions League football.
