Aston Villa have reportedly emerged as the leading contenders for Alejandro Garnacho, as the Argentina international prepares to leave Manchester United during this summer's transfer window.
Garnacho, 21, is currently training away from the first-team squad at Old Trafford, having been told by Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim that he is not in his plans for the 2025-26 campaign.
The forward scored 11 goals and registered 10 assists in 58 appearances for Man United last season, but his relationship with Amorim broke down following the Europa League final in May.
Garnacho was named on the bench against Tottenham Hotspur, which led to fierce criticism of Amorim from both the player and his brother, who acts as his agent.
Amorim left Garnacho out of the team's final match of the 2024-25 Premier League season against Villa, and he is set to leave Old Trafford this summer, with a number of clubs said to be keen.
Villa 'emerging as favourites' for Garnacho
Napoli continue to be linked with Garnacho, having made an attempt to sign him in January, while it is believed that Atletico Madrid are monitoring the situation surrounding their former player.
However, Garnacho is said to have made it clear that he wants to remain in the Premier League.
According to the Daily Mail, Villa are very much in the hunt for his signature, while Chelsea and Tottenham are also showing an interest at this stage of proceedings.
The report claims that Man United are only interested in a permanent exit, and it is extremely likely that the club will have to drop their £70m asking price, as it is common knowledge that Man United want to sell him.
Garnacho caused controversy with Villa shirt picture in June
Garnacho caused huge controversy last month when he posted a picture on social media of him wearing a Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford '9' on the back.
During the summer trip to Ibiza, Garnacho posted the image on Instagram, and it is understood that his behaviour left Man United chiefs seething.
Any sale of Garnacho this summer would count as pure profit for the Red Devils when it comes to the Premier League's rules surrounding profit and sustainability.
The forward has made 144 appearances for Man United in all competitions, scoring 26 goals and registering 22 assists in the process, but he is highly unlikely to play for the Red Devils again.
