The future of Marcus Rashford appears to be heading in a new direction ahead of the 2025-26 season, with the Manchester United forward seemingly on the verge of a departure. Following the arrival of Matheus Cunha — who has even inherited Rashford’s number 10 shirt — the England international no longer appears to feature in the club’s plans.
Reports in Turkey suggest that Fenerbahce, now managed by Jose Mourinho, are keen to make a high-profile move for Rashford as part of their summer rebuild. The Istanbul side, who have not won the Turkish Super Lig since 2014, are looking to make a statement in the market and are reportedly willing to meet United’s £40m asking price, according to The Telegraph.
Should a deal materialise, Rashford would become the most expensive signing in Fenerbahce’s history, surpassing the €20m (£17.3m) paid to Sevilla for Youssef En-Nesyri in 2024.
Fenerbahce’s summer business, however, does not stop with Rashford. According to A Bola, the club are also pursuing Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma, while deals have already been completed for Archie Brown from Gent and Jhon Duran on loan from Al Nassr.
Talks have reportedly begun between Aston Villa and Fenerbahce regarding Bailey, though Tottenham’s £20m valuation for Bissouma could prove a stumbling block in negotiations.
Rashford and Mourinho set for reunion?
A potential move to Fenerbahce would see Rashford reunited with Mourinho, who coached him during his time at Manchester United from 2016 to 2019. Rashford made 125 appearances under Mourinho, scoring 28 goals and registering 20 assists—starting 69 of those matches.
While Mourinho once praised Rashford’s physical attributes, their relationship was not without tension. In 2018, following a reported falling out with Paul Pogba, Daily Mail sources claimed Mourinho had also questioned Rashford’s self-perception, allegedly stating that the forward “isn’t as important as he thinks he is.”
Following Mourinho’s departure from Old Trafford, Rashford later remarked that it was “difficult to play my best football” under the Portuguese boss.
Barcelona among clubs monitoring Rashford
Fenerbahce are not the only club monitoring Rashford’s situation. According to The Telegraph, the 27-year-old would welcome a move to Barcelona, where he is reportedly interested in lining up alongside rising star Lamine Yamal.
The Catalan club are in the market for a winger after missing out on Nico Williams, who recently signed a new long-term contract with Athletic Bilbao. Barcelona have also been linked with Liverpool’s Luis Diaz.
Rashford’s representatives are said to have made contact with the Blaugrana, who may prefer a loan deal rather than a permanent transfer given the club’s financial constraints.
Elsewhere, Tottenham are also believed to be targeting reinforcements in Rashford’s position, while Newcastle — who missed out on Joao Pedro to Chelsea —could enter the race. Bayern Munich have also emerged as potential suitors, with Bild reporting that the Bundesliga giants are considering a move for the Manchester United forward.
