Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea will reportedly have to take a wage cut to remain at the club, with his current deal set to expire next summer.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea will reportedly have to accept a reduced salary to remain at the club.

Since joining the Red Devils in 2011, the 31-year-old has kept 171 clean sheets in 502 appearances, but his future at Old Trafford appears to be in doubt.

De Gea's contract is set to expire next summer, and although United have the option to trigger a one-year extension, they are yet to decide whether to exercise that clause.

According to the Daily Mail, United are considering offering De Gea a new contract that would result in a pay cut from his current £375,000-a-week wages.

While Erik ten Hag is not convinced that De Gea fits his system, a reduced deal could represent a compromise for both player and manager.

However, the report suggests that the Red Devils are also looking at potential replacements, including Porto's Diogo Costa and Athletic Bilbao's Unai Simon.

Although his future with United is uncertain, De Gea has started all 15 competitive games for the club this season, keeping six clean sheets.
