Manchester United confirm the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers on an initial five-year contract.

Manchester United have confirmed the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Brazil international has penned a five-year contract with the 20-time English champions, but there is also the option to extend his deal for a further 12 months to take him until June 2031.

“It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player. Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt," Cunha told the club's official website.

"I want to thank my family and everyone who has helped me make that dream a reality.

“I can’t wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my teammates and prepare for the season ahead. All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top.”

Cunha always "dreamed" of joining Man United

Meanwhile, Man United's director of football Jason Wilcox added:  “Bringing in Matheus was one of our main priorities for this summer, so we are delighted to have completed his signing so early in the window.

"He has proved his ability to succeed in the Premier League as one of the most exciting and productive forwards in England during his time at Wolves, and, before that, in Spain and Germany. He has all the qualities we are looking for as we seek to build a strong, dynamic and entertaining team capable of challenging for the biggest honours.”

Man United activated a £62.5m release clause in Cunha's contract earlier this month, and his switch to Old Trafford has now been officially completed.

Cunha enjoyed an impressive 2024-25 campaign for Wolves, scoring 17 goals and registering six assists in 36 appearances for the club, including 15 Premier League goals.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old has left Molineux with a record of 33 goals and 15 assists in 92 appearances.

Cunha in line to make Man United debut against Leeds

Cunha has recently been in action for Brazil, and he provided an assist in his national side's 1-0 success over Paraguay last time out.

The forward will now have a period of rest before linking up with his new teammates at Man United, with the club's pre-season training expected to begin in late June or early July.

The Red Devils will face Leeds United in their opening pre-season match on July 19, and there is every chance that the club's new signing will make his debut in that particular fixture.

Ruben Amorim's side will also tackle West Ham United, Bournemouth, Everton and Fiorentina as part of their preparations for the 2025-26 campaign.
