Liverpool have reportedly submitted a new offer to Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz worth a total of £113 million in a bid to bring the German to Anfield.
The Reds look set for a busy summer transfer window, with Jeremie Frimpong already secured from Leverkusen, while others such as Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth have also been strongly linked.
However, Wirtz continues to dominate discussion amongst fans given the Merseysiders appear to be the German's preferred destination ahead of Bayern Munich.
Liverpool were said to have had an offer in the region of £109m rejected by Leverkusen in the past week, a sum which would be their record transfer outlay on any individual player.
Paul Joyce of The Times reports that the Reds have submitted a new package to the Bundesliga club, guaranteeing the team £100m with the possibility of another £13m should certain add-ons be activated.
Is Wirtz worth the total sum?
Darwin Nunez is currently Liverpool's record signing, with the striker's potential fee reaching £85m, though the price the Reds ultimately pay to Benfica may be lower should add-ons not be met.
The forward has endured a mixed spell at Anfield since arriving in the summer of 2022 - he scored just five Premier League goals in 2024-25 - and some fans are worried that Wirtz could fail to meet expectations.
However, the attacker has proven himself across multiple seasons in Germany, scoring 16 goals and providing 14 assists last term, while netting 18 goals and registering 19 assists in Leverkusen's title-winning season of 2023-24.
His playmaking ability could prove to be vital for Arne Slot in the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has left the Reds to join Real Madrid, leaving behind a sizeable creative hole.
Wirtz is also just 22 years old and will likely improve as he ages, so perhaps Liverpool are planning for him to be at the heart of the team when talisman Mohamed Salah eventually declines.
It is important to highlight that the Reds' only signing in the entirety of 2024-25 was backup winger Federico Chiesa, and the club are likely in a position where Wirtz's addition will not impact their ability to bring in other transfer targets.
