Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists that his side have "no need" to sign a new midfielder ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that his side have "no need" to sign a new midfielder for the 2022-23 season.

The Reds made a trio of early signings in the current transfer window, bringing Calvin Ramsay, Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez to Anfield.

The likes of Sadio Mane, Takumi Minamino, Loris Karius, Neco Williams and Divock Origi have all left the club, but there has been little in the way of incomings over the past couple of weeks.

Liverpool have been tipped to sign a new midfielder in the coming weeks, but Real Madrid ultimately won the race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco.

Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham has also insisted that he will not be leaving the Bundesliga club this summer, but an intense battle for his signature could commence in 2023.

As a result, the Reds are supposedly ready to wait another 12 months before bolstering their engine room, and Klopp has affirmed that he is happy with his options in the middle of the park.

When asked by reporters at the Singapore National Stadium if any new signings could be made before the new season starts, Klopp responded: "How I said, if nobody wants to leave – and no player came to me with that request yet and I don't expect it really, to be honest.

"There is no need for a new midfielder. We cannot just add on midfielders. We respect the contracts with our boys as well, that means as long as we signed them they get all our support – in training, between the sessions, during the games and between the games.

"That is the situation we have; really, you can count our midfielders. If you go through, the quality of the players we have is really, really high."

Klopp currently has Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Harvey Elliott and James Milner competing for starts, with the latter signing a new one-year deal until 2023.

The Liverpool boss has also claimed that 19-year-old Harvey Elliott will be like "a new signing" following his comeback from a serious ankle injury last season.

"For me, Harvey Elliott is a new signing as well, after last season how he started. He is very young, came back brilliant, then had a little low, that is completely normal after being that long out. So, really excited about seeing him," Klopp added.

Elliott missed 30 games in all competitions after sustaining the injury against Leeds United on September 12, but he returned to register one goal and one assist in 11 outings in all tournaments last term.

Liverpool have already suffered a 4-0 defeat to Manchester United this summer, and the Reds now prepare to take on Crystal Palace at the Singapore National Stadium in Friday's friendly.

Klopp has been handed two new injury concerns with Diogo Jota and Alisson Becker ahead of the contest, and the Liverpool boss provided an update on the pair in his pre-game press conference.
