Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott admits that returning to the Anfield turf after nearly five months out injured against Cardiff City brought a tear to his eye.

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has admitted that emotion took over when he made his return to the Anfield turf after nearly five months out injured.

The 18-year-old sustained a horrific ankle injury against Leeds United on September 12 but made excellent progress in his recovery and was back in the squad for Sunday's FA Cup clash with Cardiff City.

Elliott came off the bench to an abundance of cheers and rounded off the scoring on the day with his first Liverpool goal, and the teenager has now paid tribute to that emotional occasion.

"Stepping out onto the pitch, when I ran out, came on as a sub, it did bring a little tear to my eye," Elliott told liverpoolfc.com. "It was a moment I'll remember and a moment that I can learn from in the future and look back on it and think, 'If I can go through it at such a young age, I can go through anything.

"It's hard to describe to be honest. The injury came and I knew it would be a lengthy time out, so to come out here and play at Anfield for my boyhood club, it's a dream come true."

Jurgen Klopp described Elliott as "fearless" following the youngster's return and first goal for the club, and the ex-Fulham starlet also earned high praise from Roy Keane and Ian Wright.
