Leicester City are reportedly targeting Houssem Aouar as a replacement for James Maddison, who is being linked with a move to Newcastle United.

Leicester City are reportedly interested in signing Houssem Aouar from Lyon should James Maddison leave this summer.

Despite Leicester recently rejecting a bid from Newcastle United, Maddison continues to be linked with a move to Eddie Howe's side.

With Maddison's future still uncertain, Leicester have been scouting potential replacements for the 25-year-old.

According to The Sun, the Foxes have identified Lyon midfielder Aouar, and they will prioritise the France international if Maddison departs the club.

Aouar could potentially become Brendan Rodgers's first signing of the transfer window, with the Foxes the only Premier League club yet to make an addition this summer.

The Lyon player has less than one year left on his contract and looked set to join Real Betis in a £12m move, but the deal has stalled, which could open the door for Leicester.

Aouar has scored 40 goals and contributed 35 assists in 213 appearances for the Ligue 1 club.
