Huddersfield Town dump more misery on Blackpool

Huddersfield Town score three goals in the first 16 minutes on their way to inflicting a 4-2 defeat on struggling Blackpool in the Championship.

Huddersfield Town's impressive run of form under Chris Powell continued against struggling Blackpool this afternoon as the Yorkshire outfit emerged 4-2 winners.

The hosts started brightly and took the lead after just four minutes through Grant Holt, whose bullet header at the far post proved too much for Blackpool keeper Joe Lewis.

Powell's in-form Terriers doubled their advantage in the 11th minute when Harry Bunn turned in Sean Scannell's pass after good work by Tommy Smith.

Scannell was involved again as Bunn helped himself to his second and Huddersfield's third on 16 minutes, pulling the ball back for the midfielder to rifle home and dump more misery on lowly Blackpool.

But Jose Riga's men refused to lie down and they pulled one back on the stroke of the break when Tony McMahon curled in a free kick.

Huddersfield, who looked out of sight just minutes earlier, faced a nervy second period as Donervon Daniels added a second for the Seasiders in first-half stoppage time.

It took the home side until after the hour mark to kill off their opposition, as Jacob Butterfield restored their two-goal cushion with a low drive after Conor Coady's cross was not properly cleared.

The fourth goal crushed Blackpool's resistance and Huddersfield looked odds-on to extend their advantage, coming close to a fifth when Scannell struck the post in stoppage time.

The result moves the Terriers up to 17th place in the Championship table, while Blackpool are now bottom.
