Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly identified Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah as a potential transfer target.
Leverkusen are experiencing a busy summer, having already seen head coach Xabi Alonso leave his post for Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Jeremie Frimpong has already completed a move to Liverpool, and he could soon be followed to Anfield by Germany international Florian Wirtz.
While the German club are contending with key departures, they have appointed Erik ten Hag as their new head coach and have strengthened their goalkeeping department with the addition of Mark Flekken from Brentford.
Leverkusen eyeing Quansah move
According to The Athletic, Leverkusen are now weighing up a potential move for Liverpool's Quansah.
The report claims that die Werkself have added Quansah's name to their shortlist of defensive targets for the summer transfer window.
Any deal for Quansah would be separate from the negotiations taking place between Leverkusen and Liverpool over Wirtz's transfer to Anfield.
Leverkusen are looking to strengthen their defensive options following the departures of Jonathan Tah and Mario Hermoso, while Odilon Kossounou is unlikely to return following his loan stint at Atalanta.
How much will Liverpool demand for Quansah?
Liverpool are not actively looking to sell Quansah this summer, but they could reconsider their stance if Leverkusen step up their interest.
The 22-year-old struggled to gain regular game time under Arne Slot last season, starting 13 of his 25 competitive appearances.
Quansah will continue to find playing time hard to come by if he remains at Anfield, with the defender behind Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate in the pecking order.
While it remains to be seen whether Quansah is open to a move, the Premier League champions could sanction his exit if they receive an offer in excess of £40m.
As a result, Leverkusen would likely have to break their transfer record, which currently stands at the €32m (£27.1m) they paid to sign Kerem Demirbay in 2019.
