Arsenal confirm that Marquinhos has joined Cruzeiro on a permanent deal, but they will reportedly make a slight loss on the £3m they paid for the Brazilian winger.

Arsenal have confirmed that Brazilian attacker Marquinhos has departed the club for Cruzeiro on a permanent deal.

The 22-year-old made the switch to North London from Sao Paulo for a cut-price £3m fee in the summer of 2022 but only made fleeting appearances under Mikel Arteta.

Marquinhos's debut was a memorable one, as he scored and provided an assist in a Europa League win over FC Zurich in September 2022, before making his first Premier League appearance against Brentford later that month.

However, the winger only played another four times for the Arsenal senior team and was also loaned out four times, representing Nantes, Norwich City, Fluminense and Cruzeiro.

Following reports that Marquinhos was to depart permanently, Arsenal have announced that the South American has joined Cruzeiro permanently, ending a forgettable stint in North London.

"Marquinhos has moved to Brazilian Serie A side Cruzeiro in a permanent transfer," a statement read. "Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Marquinhos for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future."

The Evening Standard reports that Arsenal stand to receive around £2.5m through the attacker's sale, meaning that they will make a slight loss on their 2022 investment.

Marquinhos leaves Arsenal: Who else could head for the exit door?

While it is certainly a shame that Marquinhos's debut was a false dawn, the ex-Sao Paulo youngster did not exactly arrive at Arsenal with the generational tag.

The 22-year-old follows Nuno Tavares, Jorginho and Kieran Tierney out of the door - the former has joined Lazio and the latter two have departed on free transfers - while Neto and Raheem Sterling have returned to their parent clubs.

As things stand, Thomas Partey will also become a free agent when his terms run out on June 30, but Arsenal remain in talks with his camp over an extension.

Meanwhile, appropriate bids are likely to be considered for out-of-favour left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko, as well as returning loanees Fabio Vieira, Reiss Nelson and Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Karl Hein's future is also the subject of increasing uncertainty, and Arsenal are likely to sanction his exit if they can get a £5m deal for Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga over the line.
