Mick Schumacher could be a strong candidate to join Cadillac's Formula 1 team in 2026, according to Germany's Bild newspaper, despite widespread speculation in Miami linking Sergio Perez to the new outfit.

While Perez, backed by billionaire Carlos Slim, was a focal point of rumours in Miami—where both were present—the Mexican did not attend Cadillac's high-profile red-carpet launch event at Queen Miami Beach on Saturday.

Bild reported that Mick Schumacher, however, was notably present at both the Miami Grand Prix and the Cadillac event, just a 20-minute drive away from the circuit at the Hard Rock Stadium.

"As Bild learned, he was in Miami to meet with Cadillac executives," correspondent Enrico Ahlig, also in Miami, stated, suggesting "secret conversations" took place that could pave the way for the 26-year-old Alpine WEC driver's F1 return after a three-year absence.

Schumacher is reportedly under consideration as a potential teammate to Perez, should IndyCar star Colton Herta, the leading candidate, fail to secure an F1 super licence.

"To obtain one," Ahlig explained, "he must finish at least fourth this season. After four races, however, he is only in eighth place."

Cadillac advisor and 1978 F1 champion Mario Andretti, speaking to DAZN in Miami, indicated the team is keeping its options open. "We want to wait as long as we can so we feel we've made the best possible decision," he said.

"But everyone you mentioned is in play."

Co-owner Dan Towriss echoed this, confirming active driver discussions. "I think the most important thing is that we're not on hold when it comes to selecting a driver," he said.

"There's a lot to do to select your driver for Formula 1 from that perspective. We're taking our time. The list certainly includes the names that a lot of people are talking about. Although I do love waking up every day and reading that we're in the final stages of negotiations."

Ralf Schumacher, Mick's uncle and a former F1 driver, addressed the Cadillac rumours on Sky Deutschland, praising his nephew's credentials. "Basically, he's a driver who has been in Formula 1 and has experience, but also handled situations well," said the brother of F1 legend Michael Schumacher.

"Mick didn't have an easy time in Formula 1, but things worked out really well in the end with his transition to the WEC, which is important. What Cadillac needs is a driver with whom you can build something, who doesn't crash, and who is a team player."
