The Swiss Super League gets underway this weekend as Young Boys and Servette square off in the game of matchday one.
These two teams head into the fixture at the Wankdorf Stadium having finished in third and second place respectively in 2024-25.
Match preview
After winning two league titles in succession, Young Boys endured disappointment in 2024-25 as they could only finish third to champions Basel.
Giorgio Contini took charge midway through the campaign and ensured that qualification was achieved for the Europa League playoff round, ensuring some sort of league phase continental football.
However, making up the 12-point deficit to Basel will be the priority, and Contini will hope that momentum remains having ended the most recent campaign on a four-game unbeaten run.
Included in that was a goalless draw at the home of Saturday's opponents and a 6-2 victory over Basel, who had already won the top-flight crown at this point.
Young Boys' last two friendlies came on the same day - July 16 - as they lost 5-4 to Vfl Bochum and earned a 1-1 draw versus Huddersfield Town.
Meanwhile, Servette head into this contest having already played a competitive game against Viktoria Plzen in the first leg of their Champions League second qualifying round tie.
An early Samuel Mraz goal sealed a 1-0 triumph in the Czech Republic and sets up Thomas Haberli's team ahead of next week's reverse game.
Servette hold similar goals to Young Boys for 2024-25 given the margin to Basel, Haberli only able to be encouraged from four successive wins when also taking friendlies into consideration.
Like their hosts, Servette ended last season on a four-match unbeaten run, scoring 11 times in their concluding three outings.

Team News
Edimilson Fernandes will be hoping to make a second debut for Young Boys having rejoined the club on a permanent basis earlier this month.
However, Contini may be against making too many changes to the team that started their last competitive fixture.
Cedric Itten ended 2024-25 with three goals in his last three Swiss Super League games and should lead the line.
Meanwhile, Haberli must decide whether to tinker with his Servette XI given the magnitude of Wednesday's game with Viktoria Plzen.
Four changes were made between the 63rd and 73rd minutes, the likes of Dylan Bronn and Jeremy Guillemenot alternatives in defence and attack.
Young Boys possible starting lineup:
Keller; Athekame, Zoukrou, Benito, Hadjam; Males, Raveloson, Lakomy, Fassnacht; Virginius, Itten
Servette possible starting lineup:
Mall; Magnin, Rouiller, Severin, Mazikou; Cognat, Baron; Stevanovic, Antunes, Morandi; Mraz
We say: Young Boys 1-2 Servette
While Young Boys hold a three-match unbeaten streak in this fixture, Servette can only have benefitted from playing a competitive match earlier this week. Therefore, we feel that the visitors will outlast their hosts and post the perfect start to their domestic campaign.
