Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso plays down suggestions that he could become Tottenham Hotspur's next manager.

Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has said that his head is "100%" with his current side amid suggestions that Tottenham Hotspur are keen to appoint him as their new manager.

Spurs are currently looking for a permanent replacement for Antonio Conte, and a recent report claimed that Alonso's work at Leverkusen had made him the frontrunner for the position.

However, the former Liverpool midfielder has seemingly ruled out a move away from Leverkusen this summer, insisting that he is "100%" focused on the end of this season and also the 2023-24 campaign.

"Rumours are normal but we still have a lot to achieve. That's why my head is 100% here for the last few months. And my head is also 100% here for next season," Alonso told reporters.

Alonso represented the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich during a hugely successful playing career before hanging up his boots in 2017.

The Spaniard started his managerial career with Real Sociedad B, before Leverkusen brought him to the club last October, and he has impressed during his time with the German side.

Alonso boasts a record of 17 wins, seven draws and seven defeats from his 31 games at the helm, and the Black and Reds are in impressive form entering the final stages of the season.

Leverkusen are unbeaten in their last 14 matches in all competitions, and they currently sit sixth in the Bundesliga table, eight points behind fourth-placed Freiburg.

Alonso has also led the team into the semi-finals of the Europa League, with the first leg of their semi-final against Jose Mourinho's Roma set to take place on May 11 in Rome.

Leverkusen are next in action at home to FC Koln on Friday evening, while Tottenham will resume their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs, who have Ryan Mason in charge on an interim basis, have lost three of their last four in the league to leave themselves in a difficult position when it comes to finishing in the top four.

The North London outfit are currently seventh in the table, nine points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, who also have a game in hand.

Tottenham have allegedly made contact with Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim to discuss the possibility of moving to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

Meanwhile, Julian Nagelsmann - recently sacked by Bayern Munich - is also viewed as a strong contender for the role, in addition to former Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers.
