Southampton have confirmed the departure of 12 players following a nightmare Premier League season.
The Saints achieved promotion to the top flight via the playoffs during 2023-24, beating Leeds United in the final at Wembley Stadium.
Russell Martin guided Southampton to the Premier League but was sacked midway through the campaign following a string of poor results.
Ivan Juric was airlifted into St Mary's Stadium to try and stop the rot, although the experienced boss could not alter the fate of his side.
Southampton were relegated in April with seven matches left to play, collecting a mere 12 points across 38 Premier League contests.
Southampton release 12 players following relegation
Southampton are now preparing for life back in the Championship, a division in which they will be expected to compete at the top.
The Saints have announced the departure of 12 players from their ranks ahead of the new campaign, including former Champions League winner Adam Lallana.
However, it is understood that the 37-year-old could be kept on at St Mary's Stadium next term as part of Will Still's coaching team.
Backup goalkeeper Joe Lumley and key defender Kyle Walker-Peters are also set to leave the playing ranks at the expiration of their respective contracts this summer.
Additionally, nine youth players have been axed on the South Coast: Derrick Abu, Josh Lett, Josh McNamara, Lewis Payne, James Martin, Tevin Myers, Alfie Prescott, Ben Sheaf and Harry Upstell.
Southampton's Championship promotion rivals
With part of the clearout complete, Southampton will be looking to add to their squad ahead of a promotion push in the new season.
The Saints are amongst the favourites to lift the Championship trophy next May, alongside the likes of Ipswich Town and Sheffield United.
There are also a pair of big-spending sides who are aiming to spring a surprise next term in the form of Birmingham City and Wrexham.
