Report: Alex McLeish in Scotland talks over managerial vacancy

Report: Alex McLeish in Scotland talks
Former Birmingham City and Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish is reportedly the frontrunner to succeed Gordon Strachan as Scotland manager after holding talks with the SFA.

Alex McLeish has reportedly held discussions with the Scottish Football Association regarding a second stint in charge of the Scotland senior side.

The 59-year-old previously managed the Scots in 2007 and narrowly missed out on a qualification spot for Euro 2008.

McLeish then departed to take charge of Birmingham City, however, and has also since taken in spells with Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.

According to Sky Sports News, the 77-cap Scotland international is now in the running to succeed Gordon Strachan at the Hampden helm.

A board meeting is said to have been arranged for Wednesday afternoon, with McLeish - out of work since departing Egyptian side Zamalek in May 2016 - now seen as the frontrunner to lead Scotland into their next campaign.

Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill was the SFA's initial top choice, only for its lucrative contract offer to be rejected.
