Roma confirm the appointment of Claudio Ranieri's successor on a three-year contract.

Italian giants Roma have confirmed the appointment of former Atalanta BC boss Gian Piero Gasperini as their new head coach.

The 67-year-old has arrived at Stadio Olimpico to take the reins from fellow veteran Claudio Ranieri, who stepped down from his managerial post at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

At the same time, Gasperini departed Atalanta following nine years of terrific service to La Dea, whom he transformed into one of Serie A's most potent attacking teams.

Atalanta clinched Europa League glory in the 2023-24 season under Gasperini's wing, beating Bundesliga Invincibles Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the final, and consistently qualified for the Champions League.

However, after 439 matches and 228 victories in charge of La Dea, Gasperini sought out a new adventure and has now penned a three-year deal with Roma until the end of the 2027-28 season.

"AS Roma announces the appointment of Gian Piero Gasperini as the Club’s new Head Coach," a club statement read. "Gasperini’s career is defined by its creative tactics, dedication to hard work, and exceptional player development.

"Both Ownership and Claudio Ranieri believe Gasperini is the right man for the mission. Welcome to the Club Mister! Forza Roma!"

Gasperini takes over a Roma side who unexpectedly finished as high as fifth in the Serie A table, having enjoyed a spectacular revival after Ranieri took over.

The 73-year-old's team enjoyed an astounding 19-match unbeaten run in Serie A from December 22 to May 4 and will play in the Europa League next term, while they only ended up one point behind Juventus in the final Champions League spot.
