Manchester United reportedly reach a verbal agreement over a new contract for experienced goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

Manchester United have reportedly agreed a new contract with experienced goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

The 39-year-old graduated from the academy system at Man United, before he left the club in a permanent transfer to Cardiff City back in 2010.

Heaton went on to play for Bristol City, Burnley and Aston Villa before he returned to Man United in the summer of 2021.

The three-time England international has largely been utilised as a third-choice goalkeeper since his return, restricting him to just three competitive appearances.

In fact, he has not played for the first team since he featured in an EFL Cup semi-final tie against Nottingham Forest in February 2023.

While Heaton has rarely featured, Man United confirmed on Monday that they were in talks over a new contract with the former Burnley man.

According to The Sun, the shot-stopper has now verbally agreed a new one-year contract to keep him at the club until the end of the 2025-26 season.

As a result, Heaton is set to continue his playing career past his 40th birthday, with the goalkeeper set to hit that milestone in April 2026.

There is a belief that Heaton could move into a coaching role at the club when he decides to call time on his playing career.

What about Onana and Bayindir?

While Heaton looks set to continue his stay at Old Trafford, it is unclear which of his colleagues will still be at the club for the 2025-26 campaign.

Man United's first-choice goalkeeper, Andre Onana, is believed to be the subject of transfer interest from the Saudi Pro League.

The Red Devils are understood to be open to selling the Cameroon international despite the fact that he has three years left to run on his contract.

The former Inter Milan goalkeeper saw his spot in the side come under significant scrutiny after making some high-profile errors during the 2024-25 season.

As for Bayindir, he could look to secure regular game time elsewhere after making just 11 appearances since his arrival from Fenerbahce in 2023.
