Real Madrid have confirmed that Jude Bellingham has undergone a successful shoulder operation, with the England international's recovery process already underway.

The attacker has struggled with a persistent shoulder problem since 2023, and it was decided towards the end of last season that he would undergo an operation after the Club World Cup.

Bellingham's surgery has now been confirmed, with Real Madrid releasing a statement revealing that he underwent the knife on Wednesday.

"Our player Jude Bellingham has successfully undergone surgery for a recurrent dislocation of his left shoulder. The operation was performed by Drs. Manuel Leyes and Andrew Wallace, under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services," read a statement from the capital giants.

"Bellingham now begins a period of rehabilitation prior to his return to recovery work."

During the Club World Cup, Bellingham said: "I was fed up playing with the sling, I’m losing a lot of weight from sweating so I need to have surgery after the tournament.

“I’ve been waiting a while and my patience is running out, but the physios and doctors have been incredible, and I want to feel free.”

Bellingham was again a vital player for Real Madrid during the 2024-25 campaign, making 52 appearances in all competitions, scoring 14 times and registering 14 assists in the process.

The 22-year-old then played six times for Xabi Alonso's side at the Club World Cup, helping the team to reach the semi-finals of the competition, but Paris Saint-Germain beat them in the final four.

Bellingham likely to be sidelined for '10 to 12 weeks'

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Bellingham will be out for almost three months, while various other reports in Spain have placed the timeline at between 10 and 12 weeks.

Three months would take Bellingham until the middle of October, meaning that he would miss eight La Liga matches, in addition to the start of the Champions League league phase.

The Englishman's absence will be a bitter blow for Real Madrid considering that he has scored 38 goals and registered 28 assists in his 100 appearances since arriving at the club from Borussia Dortmund.

Bellingham is also set to miss England's World Cup qualification matches against Andorra and Serbia in September.
