Newcastle United reportedly reject an offer of £5m from Middlesbrough for goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

Middlesbrough have reportedly failed with an offer of £5m for Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

Despite his insistence that he will not rush his transfer business this summer, manager Garry Monk has agreed a deal to sign Norwich City midfielder Jonny Howson and has been linked with Derby County defender Cyrus Christie.

According to Sky Sports News, Boro have lodged a bid to try to sign Darlow from North-East rivals Newcastle, but it has been rebuffed by the Magpies.

However, it has been suggested that Boro will return with a second offer as they attempt to take advantage of Newcastle being well stocked for goalkeepers.

Last season, Darlow made 34 appearances as Newcastle won the Championship, but boss Rafael Benitez is said to be looking for a new first-choice custodian with top-flight experience.

Middlesbrough require a replacement for Victor Valdes, who has been released from his contract at the Riverside Stadium.
