Mick McCarthy: 'The best team won'

Mick McCarthy believes his Ipswich team are deserving winners over Middlesbrough following a 3-1 victory against Tony Mowbray's men on Saturday.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has said his team deserved their 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough at Portman Road on Saturday.

The Tractor Boys had to come from behind to secure the three points, with Albert Adomah putting Tony Mowbray's men ahead after 12 minutes.

However, a double from David McGoldrick either side of a Luke Chambers goal completed the comeback, and McCarthy insists his team were good value for the win.

Speaking to the club's official channel, the 54-year-old said: "I thought they [Middlesbrough] started well and we couldn't get to grips with them for some reason.

"I did not expect us to concede in the way we did, but that brought us to life and we took the game to them.

"Their keeper has made some good saves, but I don't think Deano [Dean Gerken] had too much to do and overall we deserved the win."

McCarthy and his team have climbed to 14th in the Championship and will face Yeovil Town at Portman Road on Tuesday.
