Manchester United staff reportedly urge Erik ten Hag not to sell out-of-favour forward Marcus Rashford this summer.

Manchester United staff have reportedly pleaded with Erik ten Hag to keep Marcus Rashford on the books this summer.

The England international has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford this season and has endured a difficult time of things when handed opportunities on the pitch.

Rashford has often played second fiddle to new signing Jadon Sancho and the emerging Anthony Elanga out wide, while Cristiano Ronaldo continues to lead the Red Devils line.

In 25 Premier League appearances this season - 13 of which have come from the first whistle - Rashford has only registered four goals and two assists, as well as a solitary strike from five Champions League outings.

The 24-year-old's struggles have led to persistent links with a move elsewhere in the summer transfer window, with the likes of Arsenal, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain all credited with an interest.

However, Rashford could be handed a new lease of life under incoming head coach Ten Hag, and a recent report claimed that he is ready to stay on for the 2022-23 season.

Now, The Sun claims that Man United's coaching staff have urged Ten Hag not to let Rashford leave this summer, as they still believe that the England international has unfilled potential.

The report adds that it is now up to Rashford to convince the ex-Ajax boss of his quality, and the striker is growing concerned about his place in the England squad for the 2022 World Cup.

Rashford's contract at Man United is due to expire in under 18 months' time, but the club have the option to trigger a one-year extension until 2024.

The Red Devils academy graduate has now scored 97 goals and provided 53 assists in 303 matches across all competitions for Man United - winning the Europa League, FA Cup and EFL Cup in that time.

While Rashford and Ronaldo may be set to stay at Old Trafford this summer, the club are expected to entertain offers for Anthony Martial following the conclusion of his loan spell at Sevilla.

Edinson Cavani will also head out of the door as a free agent, joining Nemanja Matic, Lee Grant, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba in that regard.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Eric Bailly are allegedly seen as expendable by Ten Hag, and goalkeeper Dean Henderson is supposedly on the brink of joining Newcastle United.

Ten Hag is expected to be in the stands at Selhurst Park to watch Man United take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League's final round of fixtures this Sunday, where a win would see them guarantee sixth place and a spot in the Europa League.

Current interim boss Ralf Rangnick will move into a consultancy role and take the reins at the Austria national team this summer, and the 63-year-old has confirmed that he has been in contact with Ten Hag ahead of Sunday's game.
