Manchester United reportedly sent a scout to watch SK Brann defender Eivind Helland in action on Sunday, with the Red Devils said to be weighing up a move for the 20-year-old.
Helland has represented Brann on 37 occasions, scoring once and providing one assist, while he has also been capped on six occasions by Norway Under-21s.
According to VG, Man United had a scout in attendance to watch Helland in action for Brann on Sunday, with the defender helping his side record a 3-1 victory over Viking.
The youngster played the full 90 minutes of the contest, and it is understood that his performance left a positive impression on the representative from the 20-time English champions.
Man United 'send scout' to watch Brann defender Helland
After the match, when asked about alleged interest from Old Trafford, Helland told reporters: “I haven’t thought much about it [Manchester United] That’s just the way it is. That’s how the football world is."
Meanwhile, when asked whether he could leave Brann this summer, the defender responded: “I’m very calm about it. I feel very comfortable here, and my plan is to stay here. No, I’m going to play really well with Brann.”
That said, it would be incredibly difficult for Helland to reject a switch to Old Trafford if an offer were to arrive.
There has been no mention of a potential transfer fee, but Man United would not have to break the bank to sign the 6ft 4in centre-back.
Will Man United sign another centre-back this summer?
Man United are currently focusing on securing the signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, while the club are also keen to bring in a new centre-forward during this summer's transfer window.
Discussions over a deal for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez have also allegedly started, so a centre-back is not currently viewed as a priority for the club.
That said, Victor Lindelof has left on a free transfer this summer, while Jonny Evans has retired, so there is space at the back for a new addition, should Amorim decide that he needs another player in that area of the field.
Helland would be one for the future, and it is possible that a deal could be agreed that he signs for Man United and then continues on loan at Brann, which would be best for his development at this stage of his career.
Man United have already brought one defender to the club this summer, with Diego Leon arriving from Cerro Porteno, and the 18-year-old could make his debut in Saturday's pre-season friendly with Leeds United.
