Shirt numbers available to Jadon Sancho at Manchester United

Sports Mole looks at the shirt numbers available to Jadon Sancho at Manchester United next season.

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the signing of Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils were unable to settle on a transfer fee with BVB last summer but have managed to do so 12 months on, and the 21-year-old will officially move to Old Trafford after Euro 2020.

Sancho has allegedly made a request to wear the number seven shirt at the club next season, but the jersey is currently held by Edinson Cavani, who has signed a one-year extension at the club.

Man United are reportedly yet to make a decision on a potential squad number for the former Manchester City youngster, and it will be fascinating to see what happens regarding that matter.

Here, Sports Mole looks at the shirt numbers available to Sancho at Old Trafford.

Sancho has sported the number seven shirt for Dortmund in each of the last four seasons, but he did wear '18', '8', '10', '11' and '34' during his time in the youth team at Signal Iduna Park.

The attacker currently has the number 17 shirt for England, meanwhile, but he has not had a settled jersey since making his international debut, wearing the likes of '9', '11' and '7' for the Three Lions.

As mentioned, it is alleged that Sancho wants to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Eric Cantona and Bryan Robson by wearing the number seven next term.

However, Cavani currently sports that jersey for Solskjaer's side, and it remains to be seen whether the Uruguay international is prepared to give up the number. That said, the number nine could become available for Cavani if Anthony Martial, who is currently being linked with a summer exit, leaves the club.

In terms of other numbers currently available at Old Trafford, the '12' shirt is vacant, with Chris Smalling the last player to sport that jersey, while '16' is also open at this moment in time and could possibly appeal.

Looking further down the list, the number 22, number 24 and number 25 shirts are available, although it seems incredibly unlikely that Sancho will be given a high squad number.

Mason Greenwood is expected to keep hold of '11', meaning that the '7' and '9' shirts are the most likely, and a summer exit for Martial could make the decision a lot easier for the club.
