Arsenal could break a pair of club Premier League records when they head to Old Trafford to tackle Manchester United in Sunday's headline fixture.

Arsenal could break a pair of club records in the Premier League era in Sunday's headline fixture against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Gunners arrive at the Theatre of Dreams boasting four wins from their last four Premier League contests, including hard-fought away successes at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsenal's recent streak of perfection saw Mikel Arteta's men enter the weekend occupying first place in the top-flight table, although they have now been bumped down to second position thanks to Manchester City's 4-0 thrashing of Fulham.

However, Pep Guardiola's men may only be sitting on their perch for just over 24 hours, but the Citizens' match in hand means that the title is still theirs to lose.

Arsenal - now two points adrift of the holders on the same number of games - can only do their utmost to prevail at Old Trafford, where at least one new club record would be set should they succeed.

Arsenal could achieve all-time high league wins

Victory for the North London giants on the Red Devils' turf would mark their 27th triumph of the season, representing a new club record in a 38-game campaign for the three-time Premier League champions.

By beating Bournemouth 3-0 last Saturday, Arsenal matched their previous best tally of 26 wins, achieved by the crop of 2022-23 and the 2003-04 Invincibles, who drew 12 of their other contests en route to a historic title.

The triumph over the Cherries on May 4 saw Bukayo Saka's penalty set the wheels in motion, before Leandro Trossard and Declan Rice made sure of the three-goal win after the half-time interval.

Netting a trio of strikes against Andoni Iraola's team took Arsenal's goal tally to 88 for the season, which also represents a joint-high for the title challengers after they struck the same amount in the 2022-23 term.

As a result, Arteta's men only have to make the net bulge once on Sunday to set a new club record for Premier League goals in a single campaign, and not since the 1963-64 Division One campaign have they struck more, netting 90 in those 42 fixtures.

Arsenal's chances of at least making goalscoring history seem relatively high against Man United, who come into the encounter on the back of their harrowing 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Crystal Palace on Monday evening.

The Red Devils have now shipped a staggering 81 goals across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign, the most they have conceded since the 1970-71 term, when their backline was breached on 82 occasions.

Eight of Man United's matches at Old Trafford have also ended in defeat, and coming out on the wrong end of Sunday's scoreline would see the Red Devils match their worst-ever run for home losses in a single season.

Erik ten Hag's men were bested 3-1 by Arsenal at the Emirates in early September, but they prevailed by the same scoreline at Old Trafford last term and have not been beaten twice by the Gunners in the same Premier League season since 2006-07.
