Bruno Fernandes says that Manchester United are "growing up" following their 5-1 win over Leeds United on Saturday afternoon.

Bruno Fernandes has insisted that Manchester United are "growing up", with the Red Devils starting their 2021-22 Premier League campaign in impressive fashion.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side recorded a 5-1 win over Leeds United at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, with Mason Greenwood, Fred and Fernandes on the scoresheet.

Fernandes scored three times in a strong performance, and the Portugal international has vowed to continue improving as he looks to better what he has already achieved at the club.

The attacker also said that Man United are ready to challenge for the major trophies, as they are now 'growing up as a team' following a difficult spell.

"My objective every season is being better than the last one. Every performance I do, I want to do better and better. I've started with three goals but it's a long way [to go]," Fernandes told BT Sport.

"We know the quality of the players who have come in, but the team was already very good. We showed it last season. We didn't win trophies, but the team was growing up. Our focus has to be game by game. We'll achieve something with this mentality."

The 26-year-old has now scored 43 goals and registered 25 assists in 81 appearances for Man United since arriving from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.
