Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville says that he was 'not surprised' with the club's Champions League loss to Atletico Madrid.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has said that he was 'not surprised' with the club's elimination from the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

A first-half header from Renan Lodi handed Atletico Madrid a 1-0 win at Old Trafford, sending the Spanish champions into the round of 16 courtesy of a 2-1 aggregate success.

Neville has said that he was not shocked with his former team's elimination, claiming that "any decent team, with organisation and fight" are likely to have too much for the Red Devils.

"No surprise last night. Any decent team, with organisation and fight are likely to beat this United team. It's why I couldn't get excited after Spurs last Saturday because that Spurs performance would will get you beat v a good team. A long road in to the end of May!" Neville wrote on Twitter.

Man United have already been knocked out of the FA Cup, so the club only have Premier League football to focus on between now and the end of the campaign.

The 20-time English champions are currently fifth in the table, one point behind fourth-placed Arsenal, while the Gunners have three matches spare on the side directly below them.
