Leicester City are given positive injury updates on centre-backs Jonny Evans and Jannick Vestergaard ahead of Saturday's clash with Manchester City.

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has provided positive injury updates on centre-back pair Jonny Evans and Jannik Vestergaard ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Manchester City.

Evans missed the final chunk of last season and has started the new campaign in the treatment room after picking up a foot injury in May, while Vestergaard is yet to feature for his new club after joining from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

In the absence of those two, alongside French defender Wesley Fofana, who has been ruled out with a long-term injury, Rodgers has deployed a centre-back pairing of Caglar Soyuncu and Daniel Amartey, but the Northern Irish manager has suggested that the recovering duo could return imminently.

Speaking to Leicester's official website, Rodgers revealed that the duo are "progressing very, very well" and that both centre-backs have featured in training games, having missed out on international duty with Northern Ireland and Denmark respectively.

"That is what we have to assess going into this last 24 hours, just where they're at. We had a training game last week here at the training ground that they both played in and they came through that," Rodgers added.

"They're not going to be 100%, of course. We now have only three substitutes, so there's a strategy going into the game. We have to be as sure as we possibly can in terms of how long the players can last, but we'll see where we're at before we finalise the team."

Such news could see either defender return to the squad on Saturday, when the Foxes play host to defending champions Manchester City.
