Sports Mole analyses Liverpool's summer 2025 transfer window, including top targets, budget, most likely signings and priority positions.

Liverpool secured a record 20th top-flight title in the 2024-25 Premier League season, and the Reds have shown no signs of slowing down this summer.

After the departure of Jurgen Klopp, most fans were expecting a quiet and steady debut campaign under new boss Arne Slot, but the former Feyenoord man bested both Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta at the first time of asking to claim the crown.

Adding to the surprise of Slot's success was the fact that the Merseysiders made just one signing last year, bringing in Federico Chiesa as a backup forward in a cut-price deal from Juventus, and the Italian winger made only one start in the league.

This time around, led by Michael Edwards and sporting director Richard Hughes, the Reds have made a number of high-quality additions, with Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz all making the switch to Anfield, and even more incomings are expected over the next few weeks.

Here, Sports Mole considers Liverpool's top targets, budget, most likely signings and priority positions for the 2025 summer transfer window.

Following the exit of right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool decided to bring in Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Frimpong, and they have also replaced left-back Andrew Robertson this summer with Bournemouth defender Kerkez.

Slot has frequently praised Paris Saint-Germain for their use of attacking full-backs, and the Dutchman may want to replicate the French side's offensive approach.

Elsewhere, the Reds have completed a club-record deal for ex-Bayer Leverkusen attacker Wirtz, who has signed for an initial £100m potentially rising to £116 if all add-ons are hit.

Now, Liverpool are in hot pursuit of that new big-money number nine, and the Premier League champions have been putting a few eggs into Alexander Isak's basket and a few into Hugo Ekitike's basket over the past few days.

However, with Newcastle United standing firm on their £150m valuation of the former, Liverpool are believed to have made Ekitike their prime target and have already agreed terms with the Frenchman over a long-term contract as they attempt to strike a deal with Frankfurt.

Given that the club were willing to commit £116m to sign Wirtz, it is fair to say that the Reds' transfer budget is sizeable.

Liverpool's budget will also have been bolstered by the fact that their only expenditure last season was the £12.5m spent on Chiesa.

Additionally, the champions have a number of fringe players at the club that they may look to sell, with the likes of Harvey Elliott and Kostas Tsimikas up for sale, while Caoimhin Kelleher's exit to Brentford and Jarell Quansah's exit to Bayer Leverkusen has boosted the coffers too.

Furthermore, Liverpool could also bank big money by offloading misfiring striker Darwin Nunez, who will no longer be linking up with Napoli due to the costs involved, but the Saudi Arabia door could be open for the Uruguayan.

Luis Diaz is also believed to be open to a departure amid interest from both Barcelona and Bayern Munich, while Tyler Morton, Rhys Williams and Chiesa himself may be on the chopping block too.

Should Liverpool sell the players that Slot deems surplus to requirements, it is easy to see how even more new faces could arrive at Anfield this summer.

Now that Frimpong, Wirtz and Kerkez are through the door, Liverpool could turn their attention to another defender, with Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi rumoured to be an option for a fee in the region of £40m.

The Reds are expected to come forward with a 'significant' offer for the 24-year-old, who could replace both Quansah and Ibrahima Konate if the latter cannot find an agreement over a new contract amidst links to Real Madrid.

However, the Guehi trail has gone cold in recent weeks, as Palace are seemingly confident of hanging onto the Englishman for at least one more season, but a free transfer in 2026 cannot be ruled out.

Instead, Liverpool are now going all in on the Ekitike signing, and there is optimism that a deal could be struck within the £75m to £80m range.

With Alexander-Arnold making the switch to Madrid, the Merseysiders have lost arguably their most creative player, and failure to replace his ability on the ball would be detrimental to the team's chances of retaining their title.

Wirtz would certainly alleviate the loss of the right-back, but Liverpool will still need to reinforce their offensive ranks further.

Elsewhere in defence, a centre-back must be brought to the club as a replacement for Quansah, and Guehi's signing could represent shrewd business given he has just a year left on his contract.

If the champions made the necessary additions in defence, while also finding ways of creating chances in Alexander-Arnold's absence, then signing a striker to take Nunez's place in the XI could be sensible.
