Steven Gerrard: It's "difficult" to control emotions

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admits to having difficulty controlling his emotions as the Reds close in on their first ever Premier League title.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that he is finding it "difficult" to control his emotions as the Reds close in on their first league title since 1990.

Brendan Rodgers's side beat Manchester City 3-2 on Sunday, and victory in their remaining four games will see them crowned champions.

Immediately following the win against City, a teary-eyed Gerrard was captured on camera issuing a rallying call to his teammates, urging them to focus on the game against Norwich City on Sunday, and the England skipper revealed that he is having trouble keeping his feelings in check.

The Daily Mail quotes Gerrard as saying: "I've just got to stay calm, relax and take each game as it comes. I'm trying to do that but it's difficult to control my emotion.

"In my spare time, I'm not sitting around thinking about it. I'm watching the TV, spending time with my kids and my friends to take my mind off it.

"I'd love to play the remaining four games in the next four days but it is not possible. I have to manage the time well and make sure that I'm not wasting unnecessary energy."

Liverpool have won their last 10 games, and Gerrard was recently voted the Premier League's Player of the Month for March alongside teammate Luis Suarez.
